Chief Professional Officer – North Suburban United Way

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Chief Professional Officer (CPO) is responsible for implementation of all policies adopted by the Boards of Directors. The CPO manages Resource Development activities, community assessment and allocation of resources, handles the daily operations of the organization and also represents the organization in the community. The CPO also assists in the recruitment and cultivation of volunteers.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leverages resources available through the organization and the community that supports all aspects of annual campaign.
  • Manages local public relations activities coordinating with UWMC as appropriate.
  • Develops long-range strategic objectives/initiatives to expand current funding and develop alternative sources to invest in the community.
  • Identifies major areas of unidentified need within the territory.
  • Identifies areas of capacity building among health and human service programs.
  • Establishes strong agency, community and regional business collaborative partnerships within the region.
  • Coordinates efforts of the organization to conduct the Community Assessment process with Board of Directors.
  • Leverages the resources available in the organization and community to achieve the maximum results
  • Utilizing volunteers and self, makes public and civic group presentations and appearances, as necessary.
  • Key contact person in agency relationships and establishment.
  • Assists in developing and coordinating a program for the community and board members to become knowledgeable about the programs funded.
  • Works closely with the President and Executive Committee to manage board and organizational operations.
  • Working with the board, develop long-range strategic objectives/initiatives for the further development of board members and the organization.
  • Working with the Board’s Board development, supports volunteer recruitment at the committee level on new board member orientation, recruitment and training.
  • Supervises daily operations.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, directs the work of, evaluates, motivates, disciplines, counsels and develops staff.
  • Coordinates with UWMC Human Resources.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from four year college or university in related discipline.
  • 5-7 years experience in the not-for-profit arena, such as a foundation or United Way; health and human service background.
  • Proven record of organizational management, supervision of staff/volunteers and successful fundraising.
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • This is a part-time position (30 hours per week).

Loaned Executive

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITY:

Loaned Executive’s will assist the Resource Development department with the 2008 United Way Fundraising Campaign, working a 20 week period in an intensive fundraising position to help reach the 2008 campaign goal.

ABOUT UNITED WAY OF METROPOLITAN CHICAGO:

United Way is Chicagoland’s leading non-governmental supporter of health and human services, answering a range of needs in each local community. From disaster relief, affordable daycare, healthcare access, substance abuse counseling, job training and more. United Way works with community leaders and experts to prioritize needs. Extensive research is done to identify the most critical human care needs in the 238 communities it serves and then funds the programs that best address those needs. United Way helps more than one person, one charity, one issue, or one community and is truly changing the metropolitan landscape for the better.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Management of account portfolios.
  • Assist Employee Campaign Coordinators to plan, organize, and schedule the campaign.
  • Use Andar database to maintain accurate and timely record of each account.
  • Conduct training sessions for company campaign solicitors about United Way funded health and human service programs, community building and how funds are raised and invested.
  • Ability to speak publicly using United Way messaging.
  • Making “the ask” for employee and/or corporate donations.
  • Develop fundraising strategies for assigned accounts.
  • Ensure campaign goals are met and results reported in a timely manner.
  • Conduct calls on low, lapsed or zero accounts.
  • Serve as a United Way ambassador at all times by communicating the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago mission.
  • Flexibility for cross departmental assignments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from four year college or university or equivalent of education and experience.
  • At least three years work experience in a related field with sales background preferred.
  • Ability to relate well with staff, management, and volunteers.
  • Energetic, self-motivated, team-oriented individuals who have a strong desire to make a difference in his or her community.
  • Entrepreneurial minded; embraces growth opportunities, enjoys learning and welcomes new challenges.
  • Flexible, organized and detailed oriented.
  • Must have reliable transportation (all mileage will be reimbursed; excluding normal commute to and from work).

COMMITMENT:

  • A 20 week period with possibility for extension-start date will be August 4, 2008. A
    37.5 hour work week is required.

    Program Manager, Economic Self Sufficiency

    POSITION ACCOUNTABILITY:

    Reporting to the Director, Economic Self-Sufficiency, the program manager will manage United Way of Metropolitan Chicago’s (UWMC) Economic Self-Sufficiency (ESS) issue area work, including strategic plan creation, implementation, and evaluation of impact. This will include programmatic investment, partnership and initiative creation as well as public policy and public awareness efforts. The program manager will support the director in ensuring that UWMC is progressing toward achieving financial stability outcomes in a significant and measurable way.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Oversee research in the ESS issue area.
    • Collect, synthesize and analyze data from social service agencies and partners in the ESS issue.
    • Ensure best practices in funding, measurement, and partnerships in the ESS issue area.
    • Manage projects, resources and team contributions in the ESS issue area.
    • Manage strategies that advance ESS issue area work.
    • Manage program reviews in the ESS issue area.
    • Assist the director in fundraising for the issue area, including grant writing and program evaluation.
    • Support the ESS Director in all of the following activities:
    • Establish/maintain partnerships/relationships.
    • Provide recommendations on funding requests.
    • Provide direction to United Way volunteers during funding process.
    • Recruitment and training of ESS panel volunteers.
    • Assist panel to formulate outcomes, determine data collection, track progress and evaluate results.
    • Develop appropriate evaluation measures.
    • Implement innovative program efforts based on identified community issues.
    • In concert with UWMC‘s Communications department, develop content for marketing and collateral materials for ESS.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • BA/BS degree required in related fields such as social services, public administration, economics, etc.)
    • Minimum of three years work related experience in group facilitation.
    • Ability to think analytically and analyze data.
    • Excellent written and verbal skills.
    • Strong relationship building and volunteer management skills.
    • Experienced in latest version of Microsoft Office Environment (Word, Excel & PowerPoint).

    Manager of Interactive Media

    As the Manager of Interactive Media, the selected candidate will work closely with the Chief Communications Officer.  The Manager of Interactive Media serves as architect and chief content developer and editor of web communications, responsible for website development for United Way of Metropolitan Chicago and its Member United Ways, electronic donation capabilities, electronic communication products and the electronic portion of customer relationship management.

    Primary responsibilities

    • Develops electronic communications strategy to make the United Way web presence robust, compelling, interactive and informative.
    • Executes the strategy, developing concepts and content for web and other electronic communications.
    • Serves as infrastructure and content manager of the United Way websites, the home page www.uw-mc.org and Member United Way websites, proposing and launching website innovations and upgrades and producing e-communication reports to track program progress. Collaborates with MIS department for service needs.
    • Converts print publications to interactive e-media vehicles that are consistent with United Way messaging and branding.
    • As content developer of United Way electronic newsletters, collaborates with other departments, writes and produces e-publications targeted to Campaign Leaders, donors, volunteers, agency partners and employees. Manages the timely production and distribution of e-publications.
    • Drives the production of videos and other visuals for web use.
    • Manages relationships, budgets and contracts with web and other interactive vendors.

    Requirements

    • BA in communications or related field with three – four years in the communication field or equivalent experience required.
    • Exceptional writer with the ability to customize communication products to fit various audiences
    • Technical proclivity and fully proficient in the latest version of Microsoft Office, Dreamweaver and/or Fireworks, QuickTime, Wordpress, and HTML editing. Confidence with working with Google sites, wikis and video cameras.
    • Attention to detail with service oriented approach to uses creative customer focused service skills to achieve desired results.
    • Excellent work ethic, ability to perform under tight deadlines while consistently delivering top-quality results.
    • First rate project management and organizational skills along with team and collaborative orientation.
    • Proven creativity, problem solving and critical thinking are essential.
