United Way and Chicago Community Trust Release Study on our Region’s HHS System

April 4th, 2007 · Posted by Jason David Pelker · No Comments

Dear Friends:

Our two organizations—The Chicago Community Trust and United Way of Metropolitan Chicago—are concerned about the many strains on the Chicago metropolitan area’s nonprofit health and human services (HHS) system. As you well know, we have witnessed dramatic demographic changes in the region, growth in the need for services and at the same time increasing uncertainty about adequate funding.

During the second half of 2006, we co-sponsored a study to assess the current condition of the HHS system in our region and to assist in the creation of strategies that could address our greatest challenges. Please view the report which summarizes our findings and recommendations by clicking below (.pdf, 357 KB, 40sec @ 56 Kbps):

United Way and CCT Joint Study on our Region’s HHS Sector

We look forward to your feedback and ideas on how we can work together to meet the significant system challenges we face. We would also like your input on how our recommendations should be prioritized. This feedback will be extremely helpful to us as we work with community partners in developing new approaches. Please direct your comments to the following email address by the end of April: reportcomments@cct.org.

This is also an excellent opportunity for us to emphasize our admiration for the more than 2,200 nonprofit organizations in the Chicago metropolitan area that provide assistance to the region’s most vulnerable residents. We recognize the tremendous leadership required to help those in our community who are trying to overcome poverty, joblessness, hunger, homelessness, health challenges, violence and other obstacles to living fuller, more productive, independent lives.

Our two organizations annually invest more than $70 million in support of health and human service providers. We know those providers are led by passionate, committed and thoughtful leaders who respond creatively to the obstacles they face. We thank you for your dedication, and look forward to working with you to strengthen the health and human services system in our region.

Respectfully yours,

TERRY MAZANY
