Program Manager, Funding Process and Volunteer Management

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITY:

Reporting to the Senior Program Manager, Operations, the program manager will manage United Way of Metropolitan Chicago’s (UWMC) funding application process, as well as the recruitment and engagement of Community Building volunteers. The program manager will support the Senior Program Manager to develop all aspects of grant making and volunteer engagement to ensure consistency in the Department’s processes.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with Operations team to design and implement internal grant processes, portfolio progress, and reporting.
  • Develop application and evaluation tools for all grant making activities. Work with issue-area teams to manage a portfolio of grant making relationships, including application screening, developing outcomes and milestones, and monitoring grant progress and impact.
  • Work with Diversity and Outreach team to ensure that volunteer engagement and grant making processes are fair, culturally competent and inclusive.
  • Review letters of inquiry, applications, and conduct site visits for prospective grantees. Draft decision-making strategies for allocation panels.
  • Participate in the development of processes to measure, learn from and improve impact.
  • Keep abreast of current events and issues in the field in order to maintain a balanced perspective and approach in grant making and volunteer engagement.
  • Work in close partnership with Resource Development Department in recommending strategies for recruiting, training, managing, and recognizing volunteer groups and committees.
  • Mobilize and connect volunteers by managing a comprehensive volunteer database.
  • Implement and manage the Community Building Department’s volunteer management program, ensuring that our volunteers are provided with relevant information that will create a positive impact on their association and partnership with UWMC.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS degree required in related fields such as social services, public administration, economics, etc.
  • Strong relationship building and volunteer management skills.
  • Grant making/writing experience required.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously with careful attention to details.
  • Experienced in latest version of Microsoft Office Environment (Word, Excel & PowerPoint).
  • Experienced in general database concepts and use.
  • Demonstrates team-building skills.
